...in Wirzweli, adventure and mountain go hand in hand.
Snugly nestled into the heart of Switzerland, on a high plateau at 1200 to 1600 m above sea level in the Engelberg valley, lies the holiday destination of Wirzweli. You can get to this part of Nidwalden from Lucerne in just 20 minutes. Enjoy exciting experiences, complete relaxation, real nature and good times all year round. The Witch's Mountain brings a smile to the face of big and small alike. Parents, children, grandparents with their grandchildren, senior citizens, teens, godmothers and godfathers – there's something here for everyone to discover.
Children's eyes light up at the sight of the Witch's playground right next to the mountain station of the Dallenwil-Wirzweli cable car. The enormous grill area, the stream for splashing in,the labyrinth, the cool climbing park and three witches' cottages are the stuff of children's dreams. Just next-door is the summer toboggan run with its 535 metres of twists and turns. The playground's neighbours are Lizi the Wirzweli witch's animal friends: a herd of Shetland Ponies, a flock of goats and of course the rabbits and guinea-pigs in their run. Time spent here passes all too quickly.
An easy but spell-binding walk is provided by the Witch Trail. The entrance gate can be found at Gummenalp, 1'579 m above sea level. The path, criss-crossed with roots, leads through the mystical forest past enchanted stopping points to the Witch's Spell-book. A barbecue and hammock can be found here.
The Owl Path, complete with live owls, is a must-see for bird-lovers. The area is lovingly cared for and the animals enjoy visitors.
Our unique Dallenwil-Wirzweli cable car conveys visitors quickly and safely to our adventure mountain all year round. The voyage of discovery begins even as the cable car moves up the mountain. See if you can spot all the friends of Lizi, the herbalist witch, during your ascent. Thanks to the modern, generous proportions of the cable car, you hardly ever have to wait long for a ride, even on particularly busy days. Pushchairs and even bicycles and scooters can easily be transported.
The free shuttle bus is a service provided for all Wirzweli visitors: a simple phone call alerts the bus driver so he can bring you from Dallenwil train station straight to the valley station of the Dallenwil-Wirzweli cable car. Visitors arriving by car can make use of our car park with 300 parking spaces (fee applies).
For anyone wishing to spend several nights up the mountain, chalets, holiday apartments and group lodgings are available to rent in the holiday village. You can contact the owners of the various properties directly to arrange a rental. For shorter stays, beds and double or family rooms are available in the guest-houses and hostels on the mountain. Slow down and just enjoy life, while our five cosy, homely mountain guesthouses spoil you with their home-made specialities.
The hiking routes mostly only consist of slight, local gradients. Nature's jewels line the path in amazing variety. Ideal for families with children and anyone who just wants a relaxing wander. There are, however, a couple of more demanding High Alpine Routes. And if you come across the right spot at the right time, you might even be able to pick yourself a snack of blueberries.
The region is dotted with open-air barbecues along the hiking routes, inviting you to bring your own meat along to grill. Most of the barbecue areas are equipped with firewood, grill and seating facilities.
Even families with very small children can enjoy a walk with the pushchair. Through the idyllic holiday village of Wirzweli, along the Owl Path or perhaps a little further to Wiesenberg.
